Creedence Clearwater Revival's, "Fortunate Son", is probably one of the most cliché songs of the war. Yet, it has a very powerful message. The song talks about how the war is ran by the politicians who don't see the familiar effect of the war. Their sons manage to evade the war, while the common person's son is getting drafted left and right. That was the life when you weren't a senators son.
This scenario depicts the lounge of a senator. A gold rimmed frame hanging above his end table, with a whiskey glass filled with 5.56 casings.
The Rolling Stone's, "Gimme Shelter", gave more recognition to the war for the eastern world. The song represents the struggles of both parties in the war. The lyric that really struck people at the time was "Rape, Murder, it's just a shot away...". It made many realize even more how bloody and violent war had been.
This scene depicts a lower class Vietnamese home. A pamphlet on the table walking through what to do in case of a bombing attack, however, in this home it's been too late.
The Animals, "We Gotta Get Out of This Place", was the anthem for the soldiers. It was the most requested song by the soldiers for the radio. This scenario depicts the multiple aspects of the life of a soldier in Vietnam. From the draft letter to the radio station for the soldiers.
Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young's, "Ohio", was written by Neil Young after he saw the Life magazine cover of the shooting. The incident hit his heart hard. Through the song you can hear the anger and sadness of how they, and the country, felt about the whole experience. We wanted out of the war, and that situation brought the war home.
This scenario was setup to represent the shooting itself. The poster was shot with the same rifle that was used by the National Guard.
Marvin Gaye's, "What's Going On", was used to illustrate the distress in the country at the time. Not only with racial tensions, but the fact much of the country did not want to be in Vietnam. It was the protest anthem of the war.
This scenario was designed to represent the protests that were going on. Six picket signs were hung across the gallery, displaying some of the most dramatic lyrics of the song.
